Our Group Members....

Maureen 11:30 PM .

Welcome to our blog of Statistics. We have decided to present our ICA in a form of a blog. Firstly we would like to thank you for spending some time to view our blog. Hope you find it interesting and hope this will encourage you to use blogs for ICAs in the future:)
ps: For easier viewing, we have posted our posts one hour apart.

Our project Question:
Do you agree with Leonardo's work on how the size of one body part is related to that of another body part for the purpose of instructing painters on how to paint the human body? For example: if the length of one's forearm is equal to the length of one's foot?

On Our first Attempt for data collection....

Our Camera Girl:) Pictures taken are all credited to her:)

After collecting the data, we realized that the data collected was not accurate. This was because each person has a different way of measuring, reading the starting and ending point differently.
On this attempt, we measured the arm freely and did not place it on a flat surface causing the readings to differ.

We also realised that we did not place the measuring tape straight while taking the measurement of the foot. We also did not standadize whether to measure the longest toe or the big toe .

After measuring, the results taken by each person was said out loud, prompting the next person who was measuring to try to obtain a similar reading causing error in data collection.

How do we go about collecting our samples?
  1. 5 person in our group, each is assigned different roles. 1 photographer, 1 recorder, 3 measurers.
  2. We approach any students or teachers from SHS, between the age of 16 to 45 years of age, kindly asked them if they could spare us some of their time and explained to them what we needed them to do.
  3. We get them sitted comfortably.
  4. First we measured the length of their forearm. To ensure accuracy, participants are to place their forearm firmly on a flat surface, palm face up. 3 measurers will then take turns to measure the length using the same shoe box cover, from the ante-cubital fossa to the wrist. 3 readings were recorded and the average was taken.
  5. Next, we measure the length of the person's foot using a shoe box. The heel of the foot must touch the back of the box but not forcefully and placed flat on the ground. Shoes must be taken off. To ensure accuracy, 3 measurers measured and took the average reading.
  6. We thank the participants and ensured he/she that it would be keep annonymous. Candies were given as a token of appreciation to each participants at the end of the session.

This steps are repeated 30 times in order to get our 30 readings.

Our 2nd Attempt..... Data Collection

Our shoe box used to ensure accuracy and consistency in measurements.
We use a shoe box cover to measure the length of one's forearm.

Arm has to be placed firmly on a flat surface.

Shoes are to be removed and heels against but not pressing on the back of the shoe box and flat on the floor.
